Bō-jutsu (棒術) is a Japanese martial art that teaches the handling of a long stick ( bō ). Bō-jutsu is studied separately or in addition to the bare-handed disciplines of certain forms of karate or Aikido, or as an integral part of a kobudo or kendo weapon system.
The jō (杖) is a traditional Japanese wooden weapon with a length of 1.28 meters and a diameter of 2.6 centimeters. It is used when practicing aikido ( aiki-jō ), jōdō and jo-jutsu, and kobudō.
